Search Tips
Keyword Search
Enter into the keyword input box the word(s) or phrase(s) that you wish to retrieve.
Use specific words instead of general ones. For example, a search for global warming will return fewer and more targeted results than a search for warming.
The words and, or, and not function as search operators. For example, to search for documents containing the word "banking" and the word "finance," type banking and finance in the keyword input box. To search for documents containing either the word "banking" or the word "finance," type banking or finance in the keyword input box.
Use not to narrow your search. If you type alcohol not driving in the keyword input box, your search will return only those documents that include the word "alcohol" and exclude the word "driving."
Use quotation marks around a phrase to search for an exact match of those words in sequence. For example, to find the phrase "affirmative action," type "affirmative action" in the keyword input box, including the quotation marks. Without the quotation marks, your search will return documents containing the word "affirmative" and the word "action," even if the words are not used together.
Use a wildcard (*) for multiple endings. By typing an * (asterisk symbol) at the end of a word, you can search for items with multiple endings. For example, typing work* in the keyword input box will return documents that include the words "work," "worker," "workers," "workplace," and "working."
Advanced Search
Search Titles OnlyThe default search will look for your word or phrase within the full text and title of the document. You can type your search term in the "Words in Title" input box to narrow your search to just the document titles.
Search for Author's Names
The default search will look for your word or phrase within the full text and fields of the documents. If you would like to search for a specific Author's name, you may enter that name in the "Author's Name" search box.
Search Event Date
The Event Date is the date of Publication for the article. The date may be a specific date, a year, or a date range.
The default search does not set limits according to date. You can narrow a search by Date or Date range by selecting from the drop down menu. Choose "Anytime," "Since," "Before," or "Between" and indicate a month, day, or year. Note that selecting a month and day is not required in the date search.
Sorting your Search Results
You may elect to view your results by Relevancy, Alphabetically by Title, by Publication, or by Date. By default, your results are sorted according to Relevancy. To change, click on the down arrow or the up arrow at the top of the appropriate column on the search results page.
Viewing your Search Results
You may determine how many search results you want to view per web page. The default is 30 results per page, but you can choose as few as 10 results per page or as many as 30.
